Sunday Best

Easter Sunday is that one day of the year that is guaranteed to have some Sunday Best Fashion. Easter is one of those holidays that even non-practicing Christians will go to church, and it's traditional to wear your "Sunday Best" dress to church and Easter brunch. This year I just about died over all of the little girls and boys in their Easter outfits at brunch. There were so many cute little pastel and floral dresses on the girls, and colored shirts on the boys!

A couple things that I notice to be critical in Sunday Best fashion are: 1. Traditional, conservative, or formal: Men in suits or collared shirts, and women in dresses, pearls and hats. 2. Color: It's spring, so a little color is always good. Blues, greens, yellows, pinks, and whites scream Easter Sunday!

I saw a lot of women in skirts, floral prints, and sun hats at brunch in Newport Beach, Ca.
I wore a royal blue, all-over lace sheath dress with a conservative neckline, and a keyhole back. My shoes has a nautical look with blue and white straps and cork wedges. I paired the shoes with a tan clutch to match the neutral details. And of course, Pearls! Pearl necklace, bracelet, and earrings for that classy detail. My boyfriend wore dress shoes, black slacks, and a white collared shirt with light blue stripes (it's necessary to have some classy arm candy!).
We dressed in our Sunday Best!

Work that scarf!

April 1, 2012

Last night I went to a Gilligan's Island party and was in love with all the costumes! Who doesn't love a good themed party? Oh, and it was on a boat! Even better!

On the boat, I made friends with a girl named Kate who was dressed as a "Cruise Director" which was such a cute idea! So creative. She had a red scarf on to complete her nautical look.

As we were tearing it up on the dance floor, I noticed that Kate was trying to find a way to tie her scarf so that it would be more comfortable for dancing. So I took the scarf from her and tied it into a vest while bustin a move (now that's multitasking!). As I revealed the finished vest and put it on Kate, she was amazed and loved it!
It was a pretty awesome fashion-on-the-dance-floor moment!

The only pictures I got were with her jacket over the scarf-vest, but you get the idea.

Snow Bunny

I've been skiing since I can remember, and snowboarding since my dad told me skiing "isn't cool anymore" when I was about 14. And although I am accustomed to the active snow world, I have never felt very cute in my snow clothes. Being the fashion lover that I am, my lack of confidence in my snow style has made me very insecure on the slopes.

But this season things are changing! I finally went snowboard pant shopping with the main criteria being stylish! After shopping around, I realized that name brands make a huge difference in the design and look of snowboard pants. Surf brands, like Volcom and Roxy, had the latest trends and cutest styles for being a trendy snow bunny. The surf brands seem to have done the best at this by taking the silhouettes and lines that are most seen in their popular street styles and channeling them into their snow designs.

I found some great deals at a snow outlet, but was less than impressed by the styles. Everything there was no name brands and function over form. Don't get me wrong, function is important with snowboarding gear, but the style and form are just as important for such a cool and trendy sport. so I ended up finding a great sale on the top name brands in snow like Burton, Volcom, Roxy, and 686. I bought hot pink Volcom pants with a low-rise boyfriend jean type of look, deep back pockets, and a single black printed pocket. To go with it, I got a blue Roxy jacket with straight lines and all the great features and pockets of a good snowboarding jacket.

Now, I finally feel like one of those cute snow bunny chicks carvin' up the slopes!

Black Milk Clothing

I have recently been brought into a world of obsession and a great brand community that is Black Milk. A couple of girls close to me we're generous enough to share this little secret with me!

Black Milk Clothing is based in Australia and is exclusively online. Most known for their amazing leggings, Black Milk produces a very unique product of printed fabrics cut into various garment styles.

Black Milk is somewhat of a cult brand in that its fans create small communities all over the world! Thousands of girls come together to share their love for these sexy printed leggings, dresses, skirts and bathing suits!

I am now a proud owner of Black Milk Pink Galaxy leggings and a Purple Galaxy dress. Upon acquiring these, I immediately fell in LOVE! Amazed at the fit and feel of the clothes, along with the "ooo-aaah" wow-factor of the print, I am hooked. Every time I where one of my galaxy pieces I get so much attention and I can't help but love that! They create this awe-struck interest in people because they are so unique to anything else out there in the fashion world. It's not high fashion, it's not an amazing shape or silhouette, it's not beauty in the fabric choices and construction in a traditional sense. It's unique for the idea: Fitted clothes with striking images printed on them.

I could go on, but instead I will leave you with some pictures!

P.s. My computer has been a little freaky the past couple months so this is my first post done on the mobile app. We'll see how this goes...

The Braided scarf

Here's the next in the scarf tutorials! "The Braid"

It's kind of weird watching myself in the videos. It looks a little goofy to me. But I have to say, I am pretty proud of my new-found tutorial talent! I still haven't decided which is "my good side."

Scarves!

Look what I did at work yesterday...

This was fun... And we made a few more for later!
I am a true scarf fanatic and I love getting creative with tying them. Any scarf can easily be the statement piece in your outfit. Add a bright solid for a pop of color, or mix prints for a more eclectic look.

Some of my everyday favorites:
  • The twisted slip knot
  • The zig-zag
  • The "european"

Halloween: The Aftermath

After almost two weeks of patterning, cutting, sewing... and glueing, the Hot Chewbacca costume was a huge success!

I also made Obi Wan Kenobi's under robe and recruited a Luke Skywalker and C-3PO (with R2-D2).

There were so many great costumes that night! Including a crazy Transformer who reported that his "Mom made it." Good to hear that even with a 20-something son, a mother still takes pride in making his Halloween costumes!

Now, what am I going to make next year!?

. Z .

Tips for next year:
  • Pick a costume that has a light laber or other noise-making weapon. Always a good time.
  • Be ambitious! The extra effort always pays off.
  • The internet can help you make anything! I found tips on making boot covers and cuffs from a raver-friendly website!
